Does the Intercooler kill Xbox 360s?

One of the big complaints about the 360 when it came out was that the system often overheated and broke down. Peripheral maker Nyko released the Intercooler 360 that the company claimed would cool the hot box down and prevent lock ups.
But according to this GWN story, the Intercooler might itself be causing 360s to break. The device apparently sucks too much electricity that the console needs, particularly at startup, according to some tech support people at Microsoft that GWN talked to.
