'Little Big Planet' is out... the servers are down. Questions arise.

10:05 AM, October 29, 2008
'Little Big Planet' was readily available in many locations last weekend... a few days ahead of the official, pushed-back, release date. The single player game worked great, but all the online features were missing... the LBP servers didn't start up until Monday. Then the servers crashed.
I was lucky enough to take part in the online beta a few weeks ago, and that part of the game is AMAZING! The last few days, I've been going through the single player game... it's a blast, but it gets crazy-tough... very quickly, especially if you are trying to get 100% on each level.
As of last night, the LBP servers were still down. For me, this is extremely frustrating, I'm dying to get back into the online LBP communities and I'm itching to play multi-player co-op. It was the part of the beta test that made my jaw drop.
Today, Kotaku.com is questioning how in the world did other gaming sites post reviews of 'Little Big Planet' so early. This question came up citing the game's difficulty and online server problems which could prevent an entirely accurate review. It's an interesting read, especially Kotaku's direct questions to the major review sites... READ IT HERE.

No 'Little Big Planet' next week. The world mourns.

In the most irritating move EVER, Sony has recalled quite possibly this year's most anticipated PS3 game, 'Little Big Planet', from stores, before it's release date. Many stores had the game siting in stock rooms, waiting for Tuesday's release date. Some store have already jumped the gun, too... selling copies to lucky gamers a week in advance (word of advice to those guys... keep those copies nice, they're gonna be worth a fortune).
According the Official PlayStation Blog (here) the recall was due to:
"one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur'an."
Sigh.
Oh, the new release date for 'LBP' is October 27th. By that time, I won't care any more.

New DS (DSi), new Wii details, new everything... just not soon.

2:38 PM, October 2, 2008
At the Nintendo's Tokyo Press Event yesterday, the big-N announced a new DS handheld console with new features, including a .3-megapixel (that's point-three) camera. Called the DSi (how reverse-Apple of them), the new system will be available before the end of the year... in Japan. Here in the U.S. ... who knows? 1up says: well into 2009. On this page, it looks like the DSi has two cameras... one on the outside and one on the inside (in the hinge). Also, the DSi is smaller, but with larger screens and no slot for older GameBoy titles. Instead, there is also an SD card slot to save images and downloadable games.
Also announced at the event, was the Wii's new ability to save downloaded games on SD cards. This will help make up for the Wii's insufficient storage space. This feature probably won't be available until next year.
The U.S. will get something cool THIS year... our own Club Nintendo. It's the cool rewards program that Japan has had for years and allows for loyal gamers to get cool exclusive items. Past Club Nintendo goodies have included rare-colors of the DS and groovy Nintendo themed toys. I can't wait for this.
